Well here it goes. This is something that has been on my heart for a very long time. I am jumping head first into the blogosphere and ready to tackle an area that has become increasingly strong inside of my soul.
As a believer in my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and in the authority of the Word of God, my heart has been breaking because of the apparent dramatic increase in what the bible calls the "falling away" that is supposed to happen in the end times.
And what makes it worse is that it seems that we as Christians are truly being painted into a corner when it comes to declaring our faith. When I was a young Christian there was generally not a problem with declaring your faith and beliefs to a lost world. Sure many may not agree with what you had to say but you could say it. It was hard to imagine that we would live in a society that preaches "tolerance" in one breath and is trying desperately to silence the voices of Christians with everything in their power. And to a large extent that is happening.
Go out as a believer and share your uncompromised truth and watch what happens. Never has there been the level of hostility there is now to God and His Word.
But I am convinced this paradigm shift does not in any way alleviate us of the responsibility to "earnestly contend for the faith" Jude 1:3. So I feel compelled to start a blog where questions of truth can be broached and debated in the spirit of sincerely seeking to know that heart of God and the truth of His Word.
So I intend to post as I see or hear about things that come up that I believe deal with subjects relevant to our faith in the hopes of generating sincere and spirited discussion and even debate in an attempt to fulfill our scriptural challenge to "Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have." 1 Peter 3:15 And also to help equip other believers to do so. God bless you as you seek Him!
Stan, this is really great!
ReplyDeleteHere is something you may find of interest that goes along with the falling away you were speaking of.
While I have been here in Minnesota I took some time to Google some churches and what they believe. There are many Lutheran churches up here;practically one on every corner, but I have never practiced as a Lutheran so I looked mainly at Christian and Baptist churches. SCARY stuff...out of five possible churches there was only one that appeared to be focused on God and ready to do His will. Some of the scary stuff included unbelievable legalism, and on the other end of the spectrum was a welcome to a feel good, party-type atmosphere with the pastor including ideas of eastern religious practice in his newsletter to his congregation. How could a people not "fall away" with these types of influences?
Anyway, Keep up the good fight!
That seems to be a growing trend these days. I have come across more and more instances of churches bringing eastern philosophies into their teachings and methodology. I actually do know where some of this is coming from and I plan on addressing that in an upcoming post on this blog. More to come!
